DMA Card Errors and Troubleshooting

Diagnose VMM INIT FAILED, FT601 and Physical Memory Map errors, low DMA Test speed, and unstable software.

Use this checklist to diagnose common DMA card, USB connection, VMM, and DMA Test errors. Start with the basic checks, then match the exact message shown by your tool.

Quick checks

Shut the main PC down completely — do not restart it. Wait 5–10 seconds and perform a cold boot.

Reconnect both ends of the USB 3.0 data cable. Do not use a charging-only cable, passive hub, or extension.

On the secondary PC, verify the FTDI driver and confirm the cable is connected to the DATA port.

Run the current DMA Test for about 360 seconds and watch for connection dropouts as well as speed.

Connection and startup errors

[FAIL] VMM INIT FAILED: cold-boot the main PC and recheck the DATA cable, port, and BIOS settings.

Unable to connect to USB/FT601: reinstall the FTDI driver and use the DATA port rather than a power-only or JTAG port.

Failed to retrieve Physical Memory Map: reseat the cable, try another USB 3.0 port and cable, and cold-boot the main PC.

info.db not found: fully extract the archive, keep symsrv.dll and dbghelp.dll with the program, and verify internet/firewall access.

Unable to locate valid DTB: review BIOS settings, USB stability, and port selection; reinstalling Windows is a last resort only.

DMA Test speed and stability

For TINY PCIE TLP warnings, secure both cable ends, try another USB 3.0 port and data cable, and verify firmware compatibility.

For General Failures or speed below 4000 Mem/sec / 125 MB/s, use a data cable, enable High Performance power mode, reseat the card, and retest for about 360 seconds.

A stable connection matters as much as the peak number. Repeated dropouts or large fluctuations must be investigated.

Software instability

Close unnecessary applications and check RAM usage. Heavy memory pressure can move target data to the Windows page file.

Add RAM if the main PC is consistently short of memory. Do not disable the page file without a specific reason.

Provide the exact error or full log, a screenshot of the application and DMA Test, the DMA card model and revision, both Windows versions, motherboard and BIOS version, and the checks already completed.
